How it all started
I began helping a friend sell tomatoes to local grocery stores in 1981 after graduating from the University of Virginia. Noticing the high produce prices in the stores, I decided to open my own farm market to save people money and bring them fresher produce.
On April 8, 1986 in Staunton, VA I accomplished my goal of opening my own farm market. In the meantime, I got married and had 3 children; my son Griffin born 1988, daughter Tawny born 1991 and son Tarken born 1992.
We lived in Stuarts Draft and our children were getting bigger so we decided to move our store to 2964 Stuarts Draft Highway, (Rt. 340) Stuarts Draft, VA. This was only minutes away from my family farm and homeplace. We expanded a garage on our property and opened our current store on May 8, 1998 named the "Stuarts Draft Farm Market". Kenneth quit his full-time job and he and I turned our store into a real "Mom and Pop" open air farm market specializing in fresh local produce and products at fair prices. We are big supporters of small farmers and businesses so you will find here locally grown, made and raised produce, eggs, meat, jams, pickles, Bar-B-Que sauces and much more.
